Well, I’m hoping that spilling some beans this week will help break me out of the writing lag I’ve been in. There’s been so much going on behind the scenes that I haven’t been able to share.
Every week, we’ve looked at moving, discussing options, figuring things out. And every week we weren’t sure of what the final answer would be, and I would gaze at a blank page, then move on. There are just some things that need to get wrangled out in private. And honestly, we’ve shelved this move once already – how many times did we want to go back and forth with an audience? Really, even if we served popcorn, that show gets old.
So now, we have a plan. We knew a move was coming, and in fact we did all we could to move it forward. There are plenty of reasons to love our sort of adopted hometown, but our reality is this: it isn’t home for us any more. It might be home for people we love, but not for us. That’s a funny sort of thing to have to reconcile, so it took a little time and thought but here we are. We are looking forward to the move and all the changes that will come with it. If you know me at all, you know there’s a fairly nomadic past tucked behind these stories, so let’s just call this one more notch on the moving van and get going, alright?
With all that out of the way, can you all just get a little excited with me? I know Calgary is a big rambling city and there are those who curse its traffic and suburbs. Well, we’re prepared for that – with both of us working from home the traffic is less of an issue for our family than for others, and as far as suburbs are concerned, I guess we’ll just choose a neighbourhood that feels right to us and we’ll be all good. For all Calgary will offer us in exchange, we’re ready to make the leap.
We’ve got houses to juggle, kids to wrangle, schools to decide on and all that loveliness. Happily, the kids seem pretty excited about the whole idea, so that’s half the battle right there.
I’ll be writing more as our plans take shape, so for now, just wish me luck!
Here comes yet another move!
SUPER excited for you guys.
Thank you, lovely!
Congrats to you!
Thank you, Louise!
Happy Dance. Hopefully I will be joining you in the cross Canada move to Calgary soon. It’s on the short list.
Ooh! Good luck wherever you end up!
And cue the happy dance! So glad you are heading our way!
Thanks, Merry! Can’t wait! ; )
Let people scoff about our Alberta winters all they want, Calgary is a beautiful city year round.
There are some perks to being in Calgary: breathtaking mountain views, amazing restaurants and a mayor who won over the city by using social media.
Also, you’re only a couple hours from Edmonton
Thanks for this. Yes, we are looking forward to good changes. Being so close to the mountains is a big deal for us, so we can’t wait. ; ) And yes, close to Edmonton!
OMFG. I can certainly get excited with you! Calgary is awesome, so long as you don’t mind crappy weather…but it really is a great, vibrant city. If you want any info about…well, anything, I’m at your service m’lady.
Thank you kindly! I just may take you up on that! ; )
