Mixed beans for 9.14.12

Mixed beans for 9.14.12

Oh, it has been far too long since my last mixed beans post!  Sometimes the days and weeks fly by so quickly, it’s easy to miss things.  I’m always finding that with people I know, so I’m going to assume you’re all in the same boat I am.  So I’m reviving the old mixed beans update post of what’s been going on, the latest buzz (not just caffeine), and more.

The biggest news lately, as I’m sure you all know, is our move to Calgary. Yes, we moved again, yes, it’s permanent, yes, we might move again someday.  What?  Either could be true.  Let’s not get hung up on that.  Anyway, we are moved, half unpacked, we’ve found most of what we need, a few handy Starbucks locations, the grocery store and the kids’ new schools.  Oh, yes, that’s a news item in itself – both kids started new schools!  The boy is in grade three (gulp) and my wee babe is officially in preschool.  Also ballet.  I’m totally proud but a little in shock.  They will be eight and four this fall – EIGHT!  FOUR!  Sigh.

What else?  Mostly we’re scurrying, unpacking, chasing a new routine, getting up early, staying up late (okay that might be just me) and drinking a lot of coffee.  But I’m happy.  Really happy.  Calgary feels good, and we already ditched all the unpacking to drive to Banff for the day.  My kids fell in love with the gondola last summer and so to celebrate our move (and clinch their approval) we figured we would take advantage of the nice weather.  We did sell them on the move with the promise of more visits to our beloved mountains.  Turns out, we all needed a break and it was gorgeous as expected.

I’m still writing over at the UsedEverywhere blog – and you might not be surprised to find a few posts about all the moving and relocation.  If I were you, I’d tuck away the one about ten things NOT to lose during a move because you never know when you might be moving, and seriously, you don’t want to lose what we lost.

I’m trying to blog in between the chaos, as you will see, but didn’t miss the chance to share a new resource from Fisher-Price.  Oh, we got pretty spoiled last month, I have to tell you.  Always so pleased to work with this great brand – and get this, our delivery from them arrived about twenty minutes before we left our house in Saskatoon for the last time!  We literally signed for the boxes, loaded them into the truck, checked the house and left.  Amazing coincidence and the kids were SO happy.  They loved having something new to play with in the new house, and to have something of theirs not packed in boxes!

Hmm, what else?  What have I been reading?  Here are a couple of posts that I read this week and think are totally worth your time to read.   Have you ever considered the difference between the “job” of motherhood, and the “relationship” of mothering?  Is this perhaps the whole reason everyone argues and expects friction between working mamas, stay home mamas, work from home mamas, all other types of mamas?  Is motherhood a job or a relationship?  Read this fabulous post on AskMoxie.org and tell me what you think:  Free, but not cheap.  Once you’ve done that, get yourself over to visit WhatToExpect.com for “Find your post-baby body fabulous” with Pilar Clark.  Yeah, she’s getting all bold and brave about mama bodies, and maybe you should too.  Why do we judge the way we do?  Why are we all so hung up on it?  And what about the role played by celebrity moms?

Okay, lovelies. I’m out of coffee and time, so more to come another time.  Hope your Friday is fabulous and your coffee steaming hot.
