Goodbye summer!

Goodbye summer!

Well, it’s official.  Fall has arrived.  I could pretend to be sad about summer ending, but…it’s just not true.

What?  I can’t help it, I love fall.  Why do I love it so?

The colours are breathtaking, especially against a clear blue sky. The mornings are cool and crisp, just perfect for coffee drinking. The clothing starts to edge toward sweaters, boots, warm layers. I start looking at soup recipes. My kids can run outside and play without the constant worries of too much heat or bugs.  The stores fill with apples and other fall treasures (including my favourite Sunrise apples – hard and crisp for only the first week) and farmer’s markets overflow with freshly made jams and other treats.  And September in Calgary is very pretty indeed – endless warm afternoons with blue skies and plenty of sun.  The trees are changing colour, and we have plenty of pretty drives nearby.

Yes, fall is busy here – two birthdays for kids, now two conferences to attend, business year end.  And of course back to school is a small whirlwind of its own.  But these are good things!  I’m blessed to be busy with all of them.

There are a few things I will miss about summer – admittedly, relaxing on a patio or deck with a cold beverage is a different kind of relaxation than a cup of tea or spiked coffee.

Here’s a summer favourite of mine that I will miss – frozen mojitos:

And yes, okay, I did do a lot of “throw together ingredients, call it homemade sangria” this summer:

But I’m okay to leave them behind, if it means I can enjoy all I love about fall.

What are some treats of summer that you will miss?  Any frosty beverage that just doesn’t seem appropriate once you can see your breath?  A favourite venue with a patio you love to visit?

And tell me what you love about fall!

Frozen mojito? Why did I not know about this? So sad.

I LOVE summer, and I don’t mind fall when it’s warm (like right now), but summer will always be my favorite. :)

As much as I love summer, with it’s vodka/San Pellegrino Pompelmo sipped on a hot deck, I love the fall too. We head out for afternoon hikes followed by family dinners. Cozy sweaters, apple pie/cake/jam, no humidity, the daily change in colours.
